Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 certainly caught the eye when it was first revealed a couple of months back. It's a 'realistic' looking turn-based RPG from French developer Sandfall Interactive, which follows a group of explorers as they delve into otherworldly locations.
Conceptually unique and quite beautiful to behold in terms of visuals, the game continues to impress in this latest gameplay trailer. It's around seven minutes of edited footage, showcasing environmental traversal, combat, and a big old boss fight. The latter has some really nice music, too.

Again, battles are turn-based, but there's an emphasis on button prompts. Get your timing right and you'll seemingly do more damage, or force additional effects. Guarding against and parrying incoming blows appears to be crucial as well.
We should be seeing much more of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 over the coming months, as we approach its 2025 release window. But until then, let us know if this is an expedition you'll be joining in the comments section below.

Damn boiii. That look good!
Kind of made me think of Returnal meets FF
Absolutely fantastic, my wallet is ready for this game. Back then this sort of turn based gameplay is used in trailer as a concept gameplay (refer to the old FF13 trailer). Can't believe we have come this far to see it as an actual in game gameplay. RPG fans is eating hard for the next year or so.
This game looks really, really, really good. I think the art is a little bit bland, but the gameplay looks awesome.
Will be following this one closely.
I'm really into this. Definitely one I'm looking forward to.
in times where classic jrpgs are going the action way and dropping turn-based combat, it is a nice surprise to have this kind of game. looks really good so far, looking forward for more info.
Really looking forward to this. One of the very few new games I'll be getting day one. Graphics look great and the turn based looks very similar to ffx with a bit of reaction button prompts added in. All around very promising 😁
This looks really impressive. I love that it's turn based but includes some sort of active parry/dodge mechanic.
One of my most anticipated games. This was a surprise announcement during its Xbox reveal, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I’ll be keeping my eye on this.
I'm excited for this game, but I don't like timing based prompts in turn-based systems.
If it's turn-based let the outcome be the result of my decision making, not my reflexes.
Looks really good! I wish the boss battle music was less clubbish and more inspired though, maybe something more fantastical to better complement the setting. It felt a bit out of place for me. Also, I hope there'll be an option to tone down the perspective effect. There was a bit too much of it. Really looking forward to this one!
Day One Purchase for me!
@ThomasHL Sea of Stars has time based prompts and it’s an amazing game!
I've been keeping a close eye on this, since it was first reveiled, the combat gives me massive FFX vibes, this will be a day 1 purchase for me
Expedition 33 wow.thats a awsome looking game.and that gameplay looks amazing.word up son
Definitely my most anticipated game! I love turn based game play and the graphics are the icing. I love this!
Wish every turn based rpg could look and play this good, whatever happened to innovation 😔
Def rocketed to one of my most anticipated games - between this, Penny Blood and Armed Fantasia, turn based fans are going to be eating real good in 2025. 😍
Gameplay looks promising, but the art style/ direction puts me off a little. Not super interesting characters?
Easily my most anticipated game in the next year.
Is the voice actress for Maya(?) played by Jennifer English of Shadowheart fame?
What do you get when you throw Final Fantasy, Nier Automata, Scavenger’s Reign and Shart into a blender? One of my most anticipated games of 2025, apparently!
This looks great, just wondering about game length.
Looks great! The one voice actress sounds like the same one that voiced Shadowheart from BG3.
@Fiendish-Beaver
The very same.
Can't wait, looking forward to seeing more! Turn-based combat ftw
This could be GOTY.
Can’t wait to see more of this
Absolutely a day 1 for me. You can tell these devs were fans of classic RPGs - the Legend of Dragoon influence is awesome. This is what I wanted from Final Fantasy XVI.
The gameplay looks so intriguing! The art direction and color palette seems a bit drab though
